A whole week of digital health: DMEA looks forward to a wide-ranging program of events

• From 7 to 11 June this year’s DMEA is taking place as a virtual event

• More than 200 keynote speeches, panel discussions and partner sessions

• Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn to hold a keynote speech

What IT solutions are there that can help to combat the pandemic? How is the digital transformation progressing in hospitals? What feedback is there from medical apps? These are just some of the questions that DMEA – Connecting Digital Health will be asking. Europe’s leading event for digital health will be taking place from 7 to 11 June 2021 as an entirely virtual event.

Sebastian Zilch, managing director of the German Association of Health IT Vendors: “2021 is an important year for the healthcare system. Flagship digital projects such as the electronic patient file and ePrescriptions are going online, and video consultations and contact tracing apps are helping to combat Covid-19. Not least, the federal elections will determine the direction of health policymaking for years to come. DMEA will again offer a space for exchanging ideas – in a completely virtual format and for the first time over five days.”

Keynote speech by Jens Spahn and #eHealthHotSeat with Prof. Dr. Jörg Debatin

DMEA will feature more than 200 program and partner sessions, keynote speeches, panels and lectures by experts representing politics, science and industry. Kicking off events will be Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (07 June, 9.30 a.m.). In an interview he will look back on four years in office and give his views on what steps must follow now. Health policy will also be the topic at the #eHealthHotSeat (09 June, 12 noon). At this year’s edition Prof. Dr. Jörg Debatin, head of the Health Innovation Hub of the Federal Ministry of Health, will briefly respond to questions fielded by the audience beforehand.

Telemedicine in times of Covid-19 – that is the subject Dr. Galia Barkai will address in her keynote speech (09 June, 09.35 a.m.). She will talk about how the Sheba Medical Center in Israel is making use of telemedicine services to treat Covid-19 patients, among others. The pandemic will also be the subject of the keynote speech Learning from #WirvsVirus (11 June, 09.35 a.m.), which will summarise the events of the eponymous Hackathon. This event mobilised more than 28,000 people around Germany and was a prime example of open social innovation.

In their keynote speech (10 June, 09.35 a.m.), Dr. Christian Schulz of the German Alliance for Climate Change and Health and Dr. Koroush Kabir of Universitätsklinikum Bonn will be devoting time to another pressing topic. They will ask what role the health sector can play in combating the climate crisis and how important digital health is in that context.

In order to make it easier for users to choose individual events, the program comprises six theme tracks which group topics under interests and key headings, including Digital Medicine & Care, Healthcare, Politics & Regulation, Technology & Interoperability, Prospects and Careers.

Partner and networking events at DMEA

Numerous companies will be presenting their innovations and key topics at around 70 partner events. Topics will include electronic patient portals, the Hospital Future Act (KHZG), the telematics infrastructure and data security in hospitals. At the partner sessions taking place over three days from 8 to 10 June, the Gold and Silver Partners will give DMEA users a chance to engage in a live dialogue.

The DMEA platform offers numerous networking opportunities where users can establish contacts and exchange views on the latest industry topics. Those already registered on the platform can use the Business Matching function to create a profile, network with interesting contacts or exchange ideas via chats.

The entire DMEA program, including the supporting program, is available on the DMEA platform to all ticket holders after the event. It also includes companies presenting their solutions and projects on virtual tours. Among the topics will be ’Medical technology meets IT’, ’Digitalisaton in Nursing Care’ and ’AI in the Healthcare System’.

Tickets for access to the entire livestreamed program and to events on demand are available here at 69 euros.
