Political keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach and Bettina Stark-Watzinger visit DMEA 2022

• Federal Minister of Health is patron of DMEA

• More than 200 speakers from Germany and abroad

• Wide range of topics: from the Hospital Future Act to digital patient empowerment

From 26 to 28 April DMEA – Connecting Digital Health – will be taking place on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, featuring a wide-ranging programme of congress events. Around 500 exhibitors, some 8,000 trade visitors and more than 200 speakers are expected at DMEA.

Federal Minister of Health and patron of DMEA Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach will hold the keynote speech at the opening of DMEA (Tuesday, 26 April, 1.00 - 1.20 p.m., _Stage A, Hall 6.2). “Whether ePrescriptions or the electronic patient file, digitalisation must become part of the day-to-day care process for patients and providers alike. That can only succeed if digital applications benefit both parties, and if all providers, from hospitals to pharmacies, play their part “, said Lauterbach.

“We are delighted that DMEA is at last taking place as an in-person event and Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach is opening the event“, said Sebastian Zilch, managing director of the German Association of Health IT Vendors – bvitg. “The coronavirus pandemic has brutally laid bare the challenges facing the healthcare system and shown that we need fresh ideas to drive forward the urgently needed digital transformation. DMEA is the ideal format for this“, explained Zilch.

Another high-profile political figure has announced her attendance on day three of the fair. Federal Minister of Education and Research Bettina Stark-Watzinger is expected to hold a keynote speech (Thursday, 28 April, 1.00 -1.20 p.m., _Stage A, Hall 6.2 A).

Scandinavian countries such as Denmark and Finland are seen as pioneers of digital transformation in the healthcare system. In her keynote speech, Dr. Päivi Sillanaukee, Ambassador for Health and Well-being at the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will talk about how Finland has become a pioneer in eHealth matters (Wednesday, 27 April, 3.15 – 3.35 p.m., _Stage A, Hall 6.2).

The same can be said of Israel – in particular where the digital aspects of combating the pandemic and the use of AI are concerned. Israel’s Minister of Health Nitzan Horowitz will offer specific insights with his keynote speech at DMEA (Wednesday, 27 April, 1.00 – 1.20 pm., _Stage A, Hall 6.2).

About DMEA

DMEA is Europe’s leading event for health IT which gathers decision-makers from every area of the healthcare sector – including IT specialists, physicians, hospital and nursing care executives as well as experts from politics, science and research.

Every year, the DMEA dedicates a separate program to the central topic of "young talent and careers".

In 2020 and 2021, the DMEA could only take place digitally due the pandemic. In 2021, more than 4.000 participants registered for the digital version of DMEA, and around 2.500 viewers watched the program items every day.

In 2019 a total of 11,000 trade visitors came to DMEA to find out about the latest developments and products, acquire qualifications and establish important industry contacts.

The DMEA is organized by the Bundesverband Gesundheits-IT - bvitg e.V. (Federal Association for Health IT) and is hosted by Messe Berlin GmbH. The DMEA is also organized in cooperation with the industry associations GMDS (German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology) e.V., BVMI (Professional Association of Medical Informatics) e.V. and with the content-related participation of KH-IT (Federal Association of Hospital IT Managers) e.V. and CIO-UK (Chief Information Officers - University Hospitals).
