These are the Issues that Concern Hospital IT Heads, Doctors and Developers of Health IT Solutions

What are the issues that concern the industry and what are the topics that in 2019 are top of the list for hospital IT heads, doctors and developers of health IT solutions? At DMEA - Connecting Digital Health - providers, users as well as representatives of politics, science and administrations will be debating a wide range of issues. In order to provide an overview of the key headings we have put together articles on four topics, which you are free to publish. The topics range from IT security to electronic patient files, care and artificial intelligence. In each of the articles you can find references to relevant lectures and events at DMEA. In the run-up to DMEA we will also gladly help to organise interviews with our experts.

Dossier: Electronic Patient Records

The EPR: A medical data hub

From 2021 onwards everyone insured under a statutory health insurance scheme in Germany should have the right to an electronic patient record. However, electronic files for the healthcare system are no longer a vision of the future, as can be seen at the DMEA 2019: Health insurers, hospitals and the federal states as well as a number of health IT manufacturers are making progress in this area and are either developing suitable solutions or have already made them available. Electronic patient records ensure better, more efficient and safer medical care. However, a number of conditions must be met before the large-scale project ’Patient Records in Germany’ can really be regarded as a success. It is important that the technical requirements are not too complex and that the technology and the content are not randomly defined.

The opportunities and challenges facing doctors and startups

Berlin, 20 March 2019 - Be it preventive healthcare for dementia using intuitive apps, anonymous hospital hygiene inspections using IoT sensors, or VR applications that let hemiplegic patients live an independent life – new products are being presented by numerous eHealth startups at DMEA. They all have a common goal: to make the lives of patients, doctors and nurses easier. However, for startups the road to establishing their innovative products on the health market is often a long one.

Digitalised nursing: less bureaucracy, more time with the patients

The importance of nursing in healthcare is increasing all the time, due in no small part to demographic changes, with an ageing population. At the same time staff shortages and limited resources are evident in nursing more than anywhere, and this applies equally to outpatients, long term care and hospitals. A systematic and needs-based digitalisation of nursing documentation and nursing processes will not eliminate this nursing crisis but it can ease the pressure on nursing staff and eventually help to ensure that there is sufficient time to provide patients with actual nursing care. The digitalisation of nursing is one of the main topics at DMEA 2019.

Between change management and optimum patient care: Software solutions for hospitals at DMEA 2019

The digital transformation of medical facilities is increasingly placing the focus on hospital care processes in the healthcare system. IT has long ceased to be used for documentation and invoicing only, and can now lay claim to improving medical treatment at every stage of the care process while also involving the patient – from hospitals to medical care centres to outpatient practices.
